Radeon HD 4870 X2 Video Card Information

As any PC enthusiast will be well aware, the new ATI/AMD Radeon HD 4870 X2 video card has been released to a plethora of rave reviews all praising it's phenominal performance in most games. However, this does come at a bit of a price and people should be made aware of these prices if they are considering purchasing this behemoth.
Firstly, the card is power hungry. AMD/ATI list a minimum of a 650 watt PSU to power this beast. I would recommend reading my Power Supply guide if you haven't already with regards to power requirements. This card is the most demanding in terms of power requirements by some margin. The performance of this monster needs to come from somewhere after all.
The second is one that may not be so obvious. Most people are using 32-bit Operating Systems, such as Windows XP Home or Professional

Watching Region Coded 1 Blu Ray Discs on UK players.

Watching Region Coded 1 Blu Ray Discs on UK playersThe
Region Coded 1 Blu Ray Discs in the US are 40-70% cheaper than in the UK that's
one reason why there's region coding. Having a region coded 2 UK
player makes you unable to watch them
however a great number of Region 1 Coded Blu Rays can be played on UK
Players. Some of them have never been relased in the UK! I came across
a decent list that shows which US titles can be played on your UK
player so I thought I should share this information with other people. As
outside links are not permitted by ebay I cannot put here a direct
link, though,if you type the 3 following words onto your favorite search
engine it can be found easily. These words are DVD WORLD USA ,if you are feeling lucky, then you will be.

LASER PRINTER AND INKJET PRINTER - PAPER FEED PROBLEMS

If you experience paper mis-feeds the first thing to check on is the paper itself. If the paper has been in the inkjet printer for a considerable time without using the printer, I would suggest that you replace the paper. If you have recently bought cheap paper on special offer and the printer misfeeds again it could be the paper, not all 80gsm paper is the same. If it does misfeed

What to do when you get an undeserved Neg.

Let's say that a newcommer to eBay sees your auction and with just a couple of minutes to go bids an extremely high sum and then "wins" the auction. After winning they then take the trouble to read the description and find out that they have bid on an item they don't want.
Now don't forget that before confirming their bid

Microsoft Vista---Increase the speed

As a computer technician we receive a lot of calls from customers
regarding the slow speeds of Microsoft Vista. Its amazing how many
people are so excited about getting a new computer with vista
installed, and within a week are fed up with it, due to the slow
speeds. A lot of people revert back to Windows XP, but Vista does have
many advantages with advanced security measures to help reduce the
amount of spyware/malware installing on your computer. There are
many ways to increase the running speed of Windows Vista, including a
memory upgrade, i always recommend 2Gb of RAM, this helps Vista run at
faster speeds. 512mb is simply not enough memory to successfully run
Vista. However, if you have just purchased a brand new computer, the
last thing you will be wanting to do is spending more on upgrades.OK
you want to increase the speed of Vista, thats fine, its easy to
increase the speed of vista but it will have knock on effects. In Vista
there is a program called UAC, (User Account Control), this is the main
security advantage with Vista, it protects your computer, from
spyware/malware from self installing, it don't stop all bugs but a large
majority. You can turn this program off, which will speed up Vista
dramatically, however, you would lose the security aspect of Vista, so
your computer would be more prone to threats like Windows XP. I
always suggest if you are going to switch the UAC off, then use some
sort of protection, there are several programs to protect computers
such as Nortons and Macafee. But why pay for your protection when you
can get it free, I always recommend two programs AVG for antivirus
protection and SupertAntiSpyware Remover, which are both free and easy
to download from the Internet. If you update and run these on a regular
basis then you will be fine, you will have a faster system and
protection at the same time. To turn off the UAC, go to your
control panel, user account and click turn UAC on or off. Remember to
restart your computer. There are many other ways of speeding up Vista,
but this is one of the most effective, as well as removing unused
programs from your startup menu.

How to Look After and Maximise your Laptop Battery

Getting the most out of your Laptop Battery
All Laptop batteries have a limited life span, every time you charge and discharge your battery; it loses a little bit of capacity. This is because batteries naturally lose charge on their own and heat makes them loose it faster, as charging produces heat, every charge shrinks a little bit of capacity.
Even when not in use, for example, a Li-ion typically loses about 15% per month but Ni-MH is about 50% per month depending on temperature.
Depending on how you use and look after your laptop battery, you can make it last as long as possible, saving on replacement or repair costs. Following a few common sense tips can also make your laptop battery last longer on the go and avoid running out at inconvenient times.
Estimated life span:
Lithium Ion (LiON) and Nickel Metal hydride (NiMH), have about 400-600 charge/discharge cycles over 2-3 years.
Nikel Cadmium (NiCD) have 700 charge/discharge cycles.
What type of battery do you have?
You can find this info on the battery itself or in your laptop manual.

Storage:

Do not expose to extreme heat, never leave it in direct sunlight or forget about your laptop in the boot of your car on a hot day. Heat is what shortens battery life.
Do not expose your battery to extreme cold, freezing a battery will damage it.
Do not expose to moisture or water.
Do not drop or throw battery.
Manufacturers store laptop Batteries at about 60F or 15C, if you don't use your laptop battery, store Li-Ion, NI-MH and Ni-CD batteries at about 40% charge in a cool place like a not-too-cold fridge, but store SLA batteries at full charge. (Make sure you seal it in a moisture proof zip-lock type bag first)
Daily use:

If you plug in your laptop all the time, like in your place or work, it is important to take out the battery, as keeping it in the laptop while connected to the AC constantly charges and discharges your battery, this will shorten battery life and eventually reduce your battery capacity to useless.
Optimal Charge points, Lithium Ion Batteries are best recharged at 15% capacity, while Ni-MH batteries work better if charged after full discharge.
Keep your laptop as cool as possible, avoid using it on surfaces that block airvents, the hotter your laptop, the more heat generated that can shorten battery life.
If you have accidently allowed your battery to get too hot or cold, for example, leaving it in the car on a really hot day or leaving it the car overnight in very cold weather, please allow your battery to slowing return to room temperature before using it.
Tip: Never used a damaged or broken battery, this may cause bigger and more expensive damage to your laptop.
Conditioning or Priming a new battery.
If you have not used your laptop for a long time or if you buy a new laptop, you have to prime your battery by allowing it to discharge fully and recharge 3 times. This gives your battery maximum capacity, your laptop manual should have instructions on preparing your battery for first use.
Reviving a dead battery:
If your battery is from an old laptop and is no longer available from the manufacturer, you may wish to send it for re-conditioning. There are shops that will replace or re-condition the cells in your battery. If you know what you are doing and are competent with a soldering iron, you can even buy replacement cells and repair the battery yourself. Otherwise, never open or even puncture your battery as there are toxic liquids inside.
Maximizing Battery life on the go:

Use power management on your laptop to minimize power consumption e.g. Lower LCD brightness to the minimum comfortabble level, Shut down Wi-Fi if you are offline, turn off and power down on everything else you don't need. Most current laptops come with a customised Power Management tool, simply select Maximum Battery life as shown below for an Acer laptop. If your laptop does not have this, you can manage Windows Power Management by clicking on Start

Hitachi Magic Wand Massager

Since running a business distributing back care products in America, I have never forgotten products such as the Hitachi Magic Wand. Its versatility and elegant simplicity of design have made it the benchmark for handheld massagers for over 30 years, but is it as good as you've heard? I studied Shiatsu for a while and, having supplied a whole range of products to professional massage and sports therapists, I can confidently assure you that it really is. It's the resonance in the motor that really makes the difference, gently working the tissue layers to work out the knots or, when used for simple relaxation, such massagers are fantastic when used in conjunction with massage oils.

Massager attachments are available for both the Hitachi and other alternative makes with a similar design,

Laptop Scams

Buyers beware the 'Second Chance Offer', I have twice been offered the chance to buy a laptop I had bid on but lost. The first time I was taken in completely, followed his request to pay the money by bank transfer as 'He had some problem with Paypal and it was too slow'. Transferred the funds then, when he didn't respond to my e-mail telling him the transfer had been done I tried to stop the funds going through. "Too late" said LloydTSB, the money had been drawn the next morning from a brand-new account which was now dormant. How can somebody open a bank account so easily with no background check?

Soundware Guide: How to Minimise Latency on your PC

Soundware Beginners Guides: How to......Minimise Latency on your PC.A common problem faced by people using a home computer to record is a delay when they press a key on a keyboard or speak into a microphone before they hear it through their speakers or headphones. This delay is called latency, and is caused by the time the computer takes to process the incoming sound before it can send it back through an output. Long latency times can be very offputting when recording, especially when overdubbing onto a backing track, and can also make different types of sound tracks played at the same time (eg., a MIDI file, and audio recording and a file running through a VST instrument) appear out of sync with each other.Unfortunately, there's no way to remove latency completely - but it can in almost all cases be reduced to a manageable level. Latency can be caused by many areas of your computer's setup, so it's important to be sure that everything is configured to be as efficient as possible. These recommendations are kept very general to make them apply to as many different platforms and operating systems as possible. Any examples given are for PC systems running Windows XP SP2. If you have specific questions about different operating systems or software applications, please contact us and we'll do out best to help.Causes of Latency:Sound CardDriversSoftwareSystemHardwareSound CardsYour computer's sound card is the first port of call for an audio or MIDI signal being input into your computer. If you're using a sound card specifically designed for audio recording, it's unlikely that it's causing much latency as this type of card is specially designed to allow as fast a transfer as possible, but if you're using onboard sound or a basic sound card supplied with your computer it might be worth considering an upgrade.View Sound Cards in our Shop... DriversEven if you do have a pro-audio quality sound card, it can cause problems if you're not using the driver software supplied with it, or if these aren't installed properly. Many sound cards designed for recording use ASIO drivers - these are specifically designed to provide very low latency and should be used wherever possible. If the card comes with a driver CD, install the correct driver for your operating system in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. If it doesn't come with a CD, check the manufacturer's website for a driver you can download. Avoid using your operating system's default drivers wherever possible - the manufacturer's own drivers are ALWAYS better.Ninety-nine per cent of all "faults" with sound cards or other audio interfaces are in fact driver problems, so if in doubt, reinstall. If you're installing a new card, consider backing up important files, formatting your hard drive and reinstalling your operating system first - working with a clean system is a lot easier than trying to install new hardware on a machine clogged with old drivers, and can save a lot of time and trouble in the long run.SoftwareOnce your sound card's drivers are correctly installed, it's important to make sure that they're being used by whatever software you're using to record. Most software like Cubase, Logic, Ableton or Reason will have a "Device Settings" section somewhere that will allow you to check the driver setup for your audio or MIDI devices. Ensure that this is configured to use your sound card's ASIO drivers - these will contain a reference to either the model or manufacturer somewhere in their name. If in doubt, consult your software's help file for harware configuration instructions.SystemThe way your computer system is set up can also have an effect on the latency within your recording software. Latency occurs because your computer cannot process the audio or MIDI signal you are sending it fast enough. The more system resources you are able to devote to audio processing, the faster your machine will be able to process the signal. So, it makes sense to make it easy for your computer to devote as many resources as it can to the job at hand when you're recording. Background ApplicationsMake sure that you're running the absolute minimum number of other programs or background services when you're recording. Everything present in your system tray or running in the background is sapping your system's memory and processing power, even if you're not actually using it for anything. This includes your virus scanner and firewall (only exit these when you're not connected to the internet), applications that run by default on startup like MSN messenger, any toolbars that give access to advanced video, mouse or keyboard settings, or anything present in the "startup" folder in your start menu (Microsoft Office tends to put a shortcut here). Find them and get rid of them. You don't need them when you're recording and there's nothing to stop you reloading them manually later. A free startup manager program (a variety are available at www.download.com) can show you which applications are running every time you start your computer and help you to disable anything unnecessary.*WARNING* Not everything that runs on startup can be safely disabled - most startup manager programs can help you to distinguish between unnecessary applications and essential services. As a rule, if you don't know what it is, don't disable it!System MaintainenceEven if your computer is correctly set up and you rarely install new software or hardware, it will still need maintaining. Every time you use your computer, new files are being created and deleted again, and in some cases these can build up as junk files. Not only do they take up hard disk space, but they can cause your computer to crash or run slower than it would without them, particularly if new entries have been made to the Windows registry. A system maintainence program can be useful for finding and deleting unnecessary files and registry entries, and can speed your computer up significantly. If you don't want to use one of these, regularly backing up, reformatting and reinstalling your system can keep it in good working order (every 6 months to a year, depending on how much use the machine gets).System TweaksA clean, well configured system will generally give you minimum latency. However, there are other ways of tweaking your system to make it run faster. Prioritising Background Services over Programs (in Control Panel - System - Advanced - Performance - Settings - Advanced) will cause the system to devote more resources to audio processing. Reducing the number of visual effects (Control Panel - System - Advanced - Performance - Settings - Visual Effects) will also free up more system resources. Many websites give details of other tweaks, many of which can provide small improvements in performance. As always, back up or create a system restore point before making any changes to your Registry or making any other drastic changes.HardwareIf you've tried all of the above and are still having problems with latency, it may be that your computer is simply too slow to run your recording software. This may be the case if your system only just matches the minimm system requirements for a piece of software. Always try to make sure that your system matches or if possible exceeds the recommended system requirements for the software you're running - if it doesn't it's possible that you'll experience latency simply because all of your machine's processing power is devoted to running the software, so that not enough is left to process incoming audio. If you find you need an upgrade, extra RAM will probably give you the most noticeable difference in performance for the least money. After that, upgrading your CPU chip will also make a big difference, but will work out more expensive as you may also need to buy a new motherboard.

Yes, that's right, starting from next year parts of the UK will be switching to Digital TV and Analogue TV will be switched off.Freeview RolloutWhat a lot of people don't realise is this isn't an instantaneous
thing. There isn't a great Big Red Switch deep in the heart of TV land that gets flipped and... Da Da! Hello Digital,
Goodbye Analogue! No, it's a lot more complicated than that, it's an ongoing process involving the upgrading of
transmitters and the installation of new equipment all over the country.Yes, it's an incredibly complex process but I'm alright, I've got me a shiny new set top box and Freeview is Freeview right?Wrong! Read on...Whoops!Earlier this year as part of the Digital Rollout a transmitter in the West Midlands was upgraded. No big deal you might think but shortly after the upgrade (end of May 2008) a number of users served by the Sutton Coldfield transmitter reported their Set Top Boxes had stopped working. An investigation revealed something more worrying, all the problems concerned Freeview boxes from the following manufacturers; Bush, Daewoo, Labgear, Portland (a rebranded Labgear box for J Sainsbury?) and Triax. The problem only became apparent when a channel rescan was performed but as some of the boxes automatically rescan on a regular basis users were very soon shouting about it.To make things worse, as the upgrade was rolled out over the rest of the UK the true size of the problem revealed itself and it is estimated as many as 200,000 Freeview users may be affected.SetPalThe one thing those boxes had in common was the SetPal chipset and firmware from NovaPal Trading who, predictably enough, went bust several years ago!SetPal technology was very popular with the box manufacturers because the hardware was quite sensitive (it worked well in poor signal areas) and, above all, it was cheap! This cheapness meant the chipset and associated firmware found its way into a number of budget Set Top Boxes (and quite a few not so budget ones - more profit for the maufacturer) and NovaPal Technology claims more than 350,000 Set Top Boxes based on their SetPal technology have been sold across the UK!

The problem was SatPal's cheapness was achieved by cutting a few corners and
taking liberties with the Freeview standard, they assumed the number of
Freeview channels would never grow beyond a certain limit and now that
it has they do not have the memory in their boxes to store the larger Network
Information Table. And the upshot of all this is... They no longer work!Due to SetPal's demise and the way their firmware was licensed it is highly unlikely any upgrades will ever be released for these boxes which, for most of the boxes based on their technology, consigns them to the bin. They are dead!Affected ProductsThe following is a list of products I am aware of that are based on SetPal technology or otherwise affected by this problem. I have included contact details for the manufacturers wherever possible but, in all honesty, I doubt they will be of any real help. Please Note: This is NOT an exhaustive list so if you know of any others feel free to inform me of the make and model and I will investigate further.Bush IDVCR01This was a NICAM stereo VCR with builtin Freeview. Backing Up Your Hard Drive

This guide has only 1 purpose to make you think about all the information you have stored on your computer
I have spent 20 years having conversations with people regarding the loss of really important Data. Forgive me if my guide is blunt but this is a really important issue. We tend to take for granted all the information we have stored on our computers and forget to remember how difficult life would be if one day we woke up and it was all gone.
We all hold critical information on our PC or Mac. Digital Music, Digital Photographs, Movies, Important Documents the list goes on. What would happen if you get up one morning switch on your computer and the drive has failed?
Sheer panic, how do I get my information back? can I get my information back? If you have got to this stage at best you are going to cause yourself some huge amounts of stress and at worst if you need the data so badly you are going to end up with a huge bill for data recovery. When I mean huge I mean hundreds of pounds.
Lets start at the beggining
Your data is not covered under the warranty of your hard drive. This includes both the hard drive in your computer and any external hard drives that you have. All that is covered is the drive itself so there is no use hoping that the warranty will cover the cost of the data recovery.
Secondly if you buy an External Hard Drive to clear up some space on your internal drive ie take 20Gb off the Internal Drive and copy it onto the External this is not a back up, its original data. Think about it a back up means you have a copy of the data. Once you delete it from the internal drive then the External Copy is not a back up its the original content.
The solution is very simple make copies of your Data so if you lose one drive you have the information stored on another.
For example my Laptop has a 60Gb Internal Hard Drive. I have a 60Gb External Hard Drive and I simply back up the content from my Laptop to my External Hard Drive once a week. I downloaded a piece of free software off the internet and once a week it comes up and asks me if I want to do a back up. I click yes and job done.
My picture library going back 5 or 6 years is over 100Gb. I keep it on 2 x Portable Hard Drives both of 100Gb each
My music library is around 40Gb and again I keep two copies on 2 x 60Gb Portable Hard Drives.
The other alternative of course is make copies to DVD or CD but always keep a copy.
A lot of people say well I would but it's too expensive to have so many drives. It's really down to scale of importance. You can buy a 60Gb Portable hard drive for 28 pounds or a 100Gb for 37 pounds which is surely not expensive when it comes to saving your information. In fact a 160Gb Desktop Hard Drive will only cost you 30 pounds so if you have the space this has to be the best 30 pounds you have ever spent if its going to help you in the future.
All I want you to do is THINK. What if I woke up tomorrow and all my data had gone how much impact would this have on me? If I were to ask any user who had lost all there data through a hard drive crash, if I could turn the clock back and charge you 30 pounds to buy a drive to make a copy of your data would you do it ALL would say yes, truth is I could for some say 300 pounds or even more
Think about it that's all I want you to do. If it has made you think then please give the guide a vote otherwise I have no idea if it is serving its purpose.
As always if you have any questions about the guide or if you need any further advice about saving your Data then please email us or give us a call

Sellers bidding on their own item - (shill bidding).

LINK TO REPORTING FORMSellers bidding on their own item - (shill bidding). While looking for items to buy I have noticed the trend among some unscrupulous sellers of bidding on their own listing to drive up the price and avoid paying reserve fees. In so doing they are ripping us off by forcing prices up artificially and ripping off ebay for their fees. No one likes to be ripped off so I have written this guide to help you spot this type of activity and how to report it as there are various drop downs that have to be navigated to get to the ebay reporting form and they have not made it easy. Spotting shill bidding -Look at the bid history on the item, then check any other listings active by that seller to see if the fake bids are present on those listings. Cross reference this with the feedback history of both the seller and suspected shill bids. Quite often the fake bidding account will be of a low feedback score and made up mainly of feedback from the seller or low value item purchases. Anyway if you suspect you see a pattern, report it. Ebay have technical means of investigating these accounts that do not rely on the registration information provided.Navigating to the reporting form -You may try the link at the very top of this page or to do it manually follow the instructions below. On you

Bank Transfer Scams

There is a huge scam worth an obscene amount of money on eBay at the moment.Basicallythe itemcan only be paid for by bank transfer. The sellers have hacked into hundreds of eBay accounts, created false sales, leaving positive feedback for themselves and then deleting the details so that the owner of the account doesn't notice. With a perfect feedback score they are then enticing buyers by selling goods (laptops, ipods, mobile phonesetc)that are priced a little below any one else. They are not too highly discounted that you might think it is too good to be true.Of course their contact details are not registered with eBay and they will not give you a postal address. So far we know (myself and a few other eBayers I have been in contact with who have been scammed) that they are using LloydsTSB and HSBC accounts but of course they could have an account with every bank in the country. Please, please do not pay by bank transfer without scrutinising the feedback, you will notice that all their recent feedback was left on one day within seconds of each other. For example look at the feedback of Bovski and Happystickman. They are two known hijacked accounts and we are working on exposing others. I am happy for eBayers to contact me for more information, Shelley

PAY PAL CON with the Winner Take's ALL!

I recently sold serveral items on eBay. I offered a very good start price of 99p and post was very good with the option of postal insurance. When all of my items were sold, one of the items was reported to have not arrived.I offered a 50% refund considering the person did not select postal insurance cover. WHY??The winner decided to go via PayPal. PayPal advised me that they will fully refund him. Considering the winnerdid not take the postal insurance option, i felt i was beinglet down byPayPal. PayPal said i MUST have proof of post. I did, Ishowed PayPal the post office receipt with the winners post code printed on it. PayPal said it was not enough proof and the refund will go ahead. GREAT! what is the piont of offering cheaper post with or without post insurance cover.

ASK IF SERIAL KEY IS NEEDED

Check out my About Me page for more guides Update: I've updated this section to make it clearer as to whatI'm getting at, so that you can just skip through it and find the bitsof information that you need, instead of having to read a whole blockof text just to get to one bit.Index--------1. What is a serial key?2. Do I need a serial key?3. Exactly why do I need a serial key?4. Does all software require a serial key?5. Have I been ripped off?6. How can I get a serial key?7. What are the most likely programs to need serial keys?8. Would it be common for someone to try and rip me off?9. A last minute tip.1. What is a serial key?A serial key is a code that often comes with either very popular orvery expensive pieces of software. The code is used to install theproduct that you have bought, (the software will usually start theinstallation, and will then ask for the serial key so as to continue),and it lets the company know that you have definately bought theproduct from them, rather than off an online trading siteand grabbed an illegal key (so that the company can make more money!)2. Do I need a serial key?If you have bought a piece of software, and it looks quiteexpensive or popular, it's more likely to need a serial key. I know for a fact that programs like Zonealarm Pro, AVG, Microsoft Word, Framemaker and all the Age of the Empires games and packages, need keys, so if you're thinking about buying one of the above for a birthday or Christmas present, I'd advise you to get them brand new and not second hand.3. Why exactly do I need a serial key? When you get a CD, the installation might ask for a serial key, andif it does you type it out and the installation continues.Unfortunately, a lot of people still don't realise that this onlyhappens because the key is then stored in the registry for later use,and anytime they reinstall the same piece of software after that, theCD goes and checks in the registry for the key that is needed. What if I reinstall my operating system? However, if you own a computer that does not have the key stored onit for that particular product, or if you decide to reinstall youroperating system due to some major pesky worm or something, the storedkey is removed as well, because just like the computer, the registry isbeing wiped clean as well. It only keeps very important informationthat allows you to start the computer up and run programs like paintand wordpad and internet explorer, and use the hard drive and so on. Think of safe mode.As there is no more serial key stored there, the CD won't know what it is and how to install it, and that's why you must keep the key yourself so that you can tap it in again later and store it in the registry once more.4. Does all software require a serial key?Not allsoftware requires a serial key. There are hundreds of computer gamesthat you can install immediately without any sort of code, and hundredsof computer programs that have the same situation applied to them. However, since there's still a lot of software out there that doesrequire a serial key, it is always best to check with the seller first. (Note: Check with other people as well, incase you're being scammed. Forums are the best place for doing this.)5. Have I been ripped off?If your software requires a serial key upon installation and you haven't been given one, then you probably have been scammed. It may not have been intentional, because a lot of people throw their keys out after they install once, but then again it may have been so you need to keep an eye out.I would be wary of buying second hand PC software from places like Game as well. I bought Age of the Empires 3 for

Buying Computers on eBay / building your own computer

In this guide, I am going to run you through the basics of buying computers on eBay. To start off with, you need to know your facts. These include components, value and performance. Before buying any computer (not just on eBay), you need to make sure that you are getting the most for your money. It is always annoying when you buy something, and then realise that you could have got something better for the same price. Have a search around on desktop PC's/laptops for more than one day. This is important, because you need to ascertain whether or not the computer you are interested in is worth it. Leaving about 3 days from your initial search to your final buy is probably enough, if you research enough each day (around an hour or two), since people might list an item after your initial search that is better than your first choice. Processors - or "CPU" 's - are the main calculating component of a computer. There are, like other components, vast differences between one processor and another. AMD and Intel are the two main processing companies, and I recommend you do not buy any others - purely because they are almost definitely inferior and overpriced. Probably the most popular processor today is the Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo. Unlike previous Intel Pentiums, the Duo has 2 cores. You do not really need to know what they do, except that the more cores, the faster your computer will run. These are excellent processors for running more than one application at a time (multi-tasking). AMD do some fast processors, but at the moment, considering price, Intel are better. I recommend the Core 2 Duo E6300 processor for anyone looking for a fast, yet cheap processor. The two models above it are

BEWARE BUYING USB FLASH DRIVES

UK sellers that look like they are selling bulk USB Flash Drives may buy there stock from Hong Kong, which would not work in the UK, then they asks the seller not to leave feedback so people won't know that it's Far East stock? The best thing to do is buy from a UK seller who sells 'UK Stock' and then test it immediately after receiving it to see if it really holds the storage it claims to. Most people who buy a 2GB, 4GB or 8GB USB Pen Drive don't try to fill it up fully for a long time and so they don't realise until it's too late.Adding files slowly upto the 'fake' storage size will seem fine as there is some sort of programming, code or application which either compresses or 'fakes' the files you save. For e.g. a 128MB USB Pen Drive re-programmed to 2GB will save 128MB fine, but anything above that is compressed or fake 'hex' data and these files will stop working within days, weeks, or months if you are lucky. Too late to get a refund. Sure the seller will say it was a one-off problem if you have a problem with yours within days, and send you another fake 128MB posing as 2GB and you'll happily delude yourself for a short while until you realise that you ignored your instincts, the alarm bells, and me telling you that you should ask for a refund - yes, some have ignored my advice when I have shown them proof, they don't want to face the fact that they've been scammed. It's a natural human instinct... but ignoring the proof is just plain stupidity my friends. One last note, all of the above can also apply to Memory Cards. A lot of Sony PSP compatible Memory Sticks are on eBay, naturally as the PSP is quite popular so I'm told. I don't know as much about these Memory Cards but I have heard or people (and read on forums) of people's woes with fakes so be careful!Take care, and enjoy eBaying, because I do...

Inside Your Inkjet Printer: How Does It Work?

Have you ever wondered how your inkjet printer works? How does the ink get from the inkjet cartridge to the paper? Why is theprint quality is so clear? Why the printing is so quiet?Generally, all that most people know is that there's some movement anda faint high pitched sound when it's printing something -- and then thefinished document comes out.Unlike dot matrix and character printers that strike ribbons to createan image, inkjet printers do not physically touch the paper. All inkjet printers function using the same basic principles. Tiny inkdroplets are "jetted" (or pushed) out multiple holes onto paper in acontrolled and systematic fashion. This is where the term "inkjet"comes from. The size of ink droplets, speed and reliability of this type of printerhas been continuously improving since its inception in 1976. In 1993,Epson was the first manufacturer to produce an inkjet printer usingmicro-piezo technology. The Epson Stylus 800 was the first printer touse the multi-layer actuator printhead (the printhead is the part ofthe printer that holds numerous tiny nozzles that actually squirts theink onto paper). This specific print head utilised an electro-mechanical element thatacted like a tiny control room. When pulses of electricity passedthrough, it that gave specific signals to fire individual or multiplenozzles loaded with ink.Micro-piezo technology utilized a tiny crystal in each individualnozzle that when electrically energized, would vibrate or bend causinga controlled amount of ink to be forced out onto paper. When theelectrical current is off, the crystal bends back to its originalshape, creating a vacuum, thus pulling ink into the nozzle from thereservoir for the next commanded fire. Some printers have the cartridges fixed to the carriage so it neverneeded replacing (the printer carriage is what moves laterally acrossthe paper). This also kept the cost of ink cartridges low since theywere little more than reservoirs of ink. These breakthrough printers produced a whopping 360 dpi (dots per inch)that was deemed, almost "letter quality" at the time. With a printingspeed of 150 - 180 characters per second, the new Epson became the userfavorite printer for home and office. At the same time, other printers used a similar style, by which athermal jetting system was utilized in their printhead. The printheadstill acted like the control room but each individual nozzle wasinstead independently super heated by electricity, which caused the inkto explode onto the paper. Claims were made that the temperature of afired inkjet nozzle approaches that of the surface of the sun.In some printers, it was decided to mount the printhead on the inkjetcartridge itself instead of mounting it permanently to the carriage.Since each inkjet cartridge would have its own print head, replacementcartridges would be more expensive for these printers. The thermalinkjet cartridges could not print as fast because each nozzle needed tocool after firing. This heating technology also limited the types ofinks that could be used. In the 1990's professionals engineeredprint heads that applied even smaller droplets of ink, drasticallyimproving dpi and resolution. Some of the printers on the market couldproduce a 6 - 10 picoliter droplet size from one nozzle, while otherswere about half the size (between 3 - 6 picoliters). Currently, thereare printers available which will produce an amazing 1 picoliterdroplet! To get an idea of how small this is; a human hair is about 12picoliters in diameter. Most human eyes can't see one jetted droplet ofink on paper. Inkjet printers have come a long way since their firstinception. Printers today are twice as fast as their predecessors were, and are cheaper than ever. Many printers can easily produce color photoquality images in at an incredible 6000 dpi. As time goes on and asdemand for printing remains high, the quality, speed and features ofinkjet printers will only continue to improve.
